Introduction To Sports Biomechanics: Analysing ...

Sports biomechanics is a subfield within biomechanics and is its own branch of human and biological science. Essentially sport and exercise biomechanics is focused on analysing the physiological mechanics of human movement. This includes analysis of how forces interact and the effects these forces have on and within the body. In other words biomechanics in sports examines and explains why and how the human body moves like it does. In a sport like tennis this also includes the interplay between an athlete, their environment and the equipment.

This module builds upon the Foundations of Biomechanics core module and introduces methods for analysing angular motion. Through the development of an understanding of angular kinematics and angular kinetics, you will become familiar with approaches for analysing human movement in sports and exercise, both for improving sports performance and for reducing the incidence of injury. You will gain experience of collecting biomechanical data and develop video and data processing and analysis skills to extract and calculate variables relevant to performance and/or injury.

This module aims to develop your understanding of angular kinematics and angular kinetics, and to provide opportunity for you to apply these concepts to the analysis of human movement. Specific areas covered include: angular kinematics; angular kinetics; angular momentum; biomechanical analysis applied to specific sports; introduction to biomechanical aspects of injury. 041b061a72
